With Express Mode for Apple Pay paying for journeys on our services is easy. There’s no need for Face ID or Touch ID. Just hold your iPhone or Apple Watch to the card reader and go. With compatible iPhone models, you might even be able to use power reserve with some cards that have Express Mode turned on for up to five hours when your iPhone needs to be charged.
To enable Express Mode for your iPhone, open the Wallet app and tap the More button. Tap Settings, then scroll down to tap Express Travel Card and select the preferred card.
To enable Express Mode for your Apple Watch, open the Apple Watch app and tap Wallet & Apple Pay. Then tap Express Travel Card, select a travel or payment card and authenticate on your Apple Watch with your passcode.
Once enabled, you just tap your Apple device on one of our bus or tram readers to record a journey. Remember to use the same device for all your journeys that day or week. If you use multiple devices – for example, an iPhone and an Apple Watch in the same day/week – your payments will not be capped. Express Mode can only be used on enabled public transport card readers - Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode will still be required when using Apple Pay at other locations.
Express Mode is available on an iPhone SE, iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, or later, with iOS 12.3 or later, or Apple Watch Series 1 or Series 2, or later, with watchOS 5.2.1 or later. Visit apple.com/uk/apple-pay/transport/ for more information.
